Grok Expands into Video Generation as xAI Faces Safety Lawsuit

In June 2026, xAI rolled out full video generation through Grok Imagine, with lon Musk publicly sharing a demonstration video created entirely within the platform. 

The update positions Grok as a direct competitor to OpenAI's Sora and Google's Veo. Days later, a former xAI engineer filed a lawsuit claiming he was fired after raising internal concerns about AI safety, a case that has put xAI's internal culture under public scrutiny at a sensitive moment for the company.

UAE Launches Stargate, A 5-Gigawatt AI Mega Campus

Abu Dhabi's G42 has officially launched Stargate UAE, a 1-gigawatt AI compute cluster built in partnership with OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, Cisco, and SoftBank.

The first phase of a planned 5-gigawatt AI infrastructure campus. Microsoft has also announced a 200MW data center expansion through G42's subsidiary Khazna, expected to go live before the end of 2026.

The scale of this investment makes the UAE one of the most significant AI infrastructure hubs in the world, competing directly with the US and China for compute dominance.
